FDC Recognizes Correctional Employee Appreciation Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is pleased to recognize the unwavering commitment of Florida’s correctional professionals by celebrating Correctional Employee Appreciation Week May 3-9, 2020.

“This week of national recognition is a moment to pause and reflect on the contributions of corrections professionals. Now, more than ever, the members of our team have shown their commitment to the profession during a state of emergency. These essential staff display courage and compassion as they come to work every day despite inherent risks,” said Secretary Mark Inch. “I’m proud of the men and women who selflessly serve with the Florida Department of Corrections and exemplify the true meaning of public service.”

President Ronald Reagan first signed a proclamation in 1984, creating "National Correctional Officers Week." This annual initiative celebrates and honors the work of correctional officers, correctional probation officers and correctional personnel and their essential role in the field of criminal justice and public safety.

Nationally recognized for innovative practices, FDC employs 24,000 correctional employees with the majority serving as front line personnel. FDC has 145 facilities statewide, including 50 correctional institutions, seven private partner facilities and probation offices serving every Florida county.

The mission of the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a continuum of services to meet the needs of those entrusted to our care, creating a safe and professional environment with the outcome of reduced victimization, safer communities and an emphasis on the premium of life. As an extension of this mission, FDC employees uphold a set of shared core values of Respect, Integrity, Courage, Selfless Service and Compassion. Learn more at www.dc.state.fl.us.
