Inmate Sentenced to 25-years Following Assault on Staff
Judge sentences inmate to consecutive sentences following 2021 attack at FSP

STARKE, Fla. — On January 14, Department of Corrections (FDC) Inmate Rafael Quintanilla was sentenced to twenty-five additional years in prison for an assault on FDC correctional officers at Florida State Prison last year. Inmate Quintanilla was charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and possession of contraband.

“Correctional officers show up every day knowing the potential dangers they face when entering an institution. Their work is challenging and requires commitment, bravery and compassion,” said FDC Secretary Ricky Dixon. “I commend the work of the Office of the Inspector General and Assistant State Attorney Luis Bustamante for investigating and pursuing these charges. It demonstrates their commitment to justice and their collective support for the brave men and women who fulfill FDC’s public safety mission.”

FDC is committed to providing for the safety and wellbeing of all staff and inmates in custody. Those who cause harm to others are held accountable for their actions, up to and including arrest and criminal prosecution.
