FDC Celebrates Florida Correctional Employees Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis proclaimed May 7-13, 2023, as Florida Correctional Employees Week to recognize the outstanding efforts and commitment of more than 24,000 correctional professionals in the Florida Department of Corrections who work tirelessly to maintain public safety in Florida.

"With Governor DeSantis' support, this week is dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have chosen to devote their careers to public safety in the field of corrections. We have the opportunity to acknowledge and express our gratitude for the unwavering efforts of Florida's correctional professionals, said Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Ricky Dixon. "We proudly celebrate their steadfast commitment to the well-being and safety of our communities, and we honor their daily dedication and hard work with the utmost respect and admiration."

The National Correctional Officers Appreciation Week was established in 1984 by former President Ronald Reagan and is traditionally observed during the first full week of May. This occasion honors the diligent efforts and resolute commitment of correctional officers who have made invaluable contributions to society. Throughout the years, the celebration has evolved to encompass all individuals who work within correctional settings, including administrative, maintenance, investigative, educational, and other support staff.
