ICYMI: Prison programs and volunteers prepare inmates for life after lockup

The Re-Entry dormitory is among the programs offered at the facility. Warden Robert Mercado explained that there are classes on finance, the trades, faith-based studies and more.
“These programs do work. I’ve seen it myself,” Mercado told NBC2. “I’ve seen a lot of good inmates transform their lives to be successful.”
The programs are part of a growing effort by the Florida Department of Corrections to lower the state’s recidivism rate, which is the percentage of inmates who return to prison within just 3 years of their release date…
