FDC Celebrates Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week

Recognizing the public safety contribution of state probation officers and community corrections support staff

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —Governor Ron DeSantis proclaimed July 17 – 23, 2022 as Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week which honors Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) Community Corrections staff. Introduced by the American Probation and Parole Association, this year’s annual celebration is themed with Restoring Trust, Creating Hope. FDC proudly echoes the well-deserved support, recognition and gratitude for community corrections employees.

“This week provides an opportunity to showcase the incredible work of our FDC Community Corrections professionals for their valiant efforts to promote public safety and ensure the compliance of those under their supervision,” said FDC Secretary Ricky Dixon. “Join us as we celebrate their accomplishments and recognize their contributions that lead to the success of offenders transitioning back into their communities.”

“In every county across the state there are dedicated FDC Community Corrections professionals who show unwavering commitment to their unique role in the field of criminal justice and corrections,” said Assistant Deputy Secretary of Community Corrections Joe Winkler. “This week allows us to celebrate their excellent performance throughout the year and to highlight their devotion to the communities where they live and work.”

In the past year, FDC probation officers conducted more than 980,000 field contacts in the community, 1.2 million office visits, 230,000 residential walkthroughs, searches and curfew checks.

FDC’s Office of Community Corrections supervises more than 146,000 individuals and ensures compliance with court-ordered conditions of probation, conditional release or pre-trial intervention sentences. Officers also provide offenders with the tools, support and resources needed to successfully complete their sentence. By monitoring court ordered compliance with victim restitution, substance abuse treatment, mental health programs and other services aimed at reducing recidivism, probation officers and support staff are an integral component of Florida’s criminal justice system.
