FDC Staff Collect Substantial Donation for Special Olympics Florida

Staff from Charlotte CI joined local law enforcement partners to wait tables and raise money for Special Olympics Florida during a recent Charlotte County Tip-A-Cop event.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Staff from the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) partnered with neighboring law enforcement agencies in Charlotte County to participate in the LongHorn Steakhouse Tip-A-Cop event, a charity fundraiser for Special Olympics Florida. FDC staff and leadership from Charlotte Correctional Institution spent the evening waiting tables, serving meals and visiting with restaurant guests to discuss the importance of supporting Special Olympics and garnering generous donations.

“The Florida Department of Corrections has always been a proud supporter of the Special Olympics,” said Warden Derek Snider. “Our staff at Charlotte CI will take every opportunity to participate in fundraisers, races and events that donate proceeds to the organization. Thank you to our partners at the Charlotte County Sherriff’s Office, our local Special Olympics teams and LongHorn Steak House for including us in this phenomenal event.”

Over $5,000 in donations were collected from customers throughout the evening, setting a record for the highest amount to ever be raised at such an event. Across the state, FDC staff participate in dozens of events to support local charitable organizations and positively contribute to the communities where we live and work.
