Inmate Arrested Following Attempted Murder of Correctional Officer at Santa Rosa CI
FDC’s Office of Inspector General swiftly arrests inmate following attack

MILTON, Fla. — A Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) Officer was physically assaulted January 19 while on duty at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution. At approximately 5:45 p.m., the correctional officer was attacked by an inmate wielding an improvised weapon. The officer sustained injuries as a result of the attack. Staff immediately responded to subdue the inmate and render aid to the officer.

The FDC Office of Inspector General conducted a criminal investigation and arrested Inmate Tijuan Isaac (V42164) within hours of the incident.

FDC Secretary Mark Inch said, “Our correctional officers report for duty daily, despite the potential challenges they may face. I want to commend the staff who responded and brought this vicious attack under control, and the injured officer who showed tremendous courage and perseverance despite the extreme nature of the incident. I appreciate the quick and thorough investigation by the Inspector General, which led to the inmate’s swift arrest.”

The inmate was transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail for a criminal court arraignment. The FDC OIG would like to recognize the assistance provided by Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson and his office for their assistance in transportation and booking following the arrest.
