The Office of Inspector General vision is to enhance public trust by excelling in criminal and internal affairs investigations, contract systems analysis, internal audits and safety and risk management programs to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction. Specifically, we strive to be a leader in cultivating a staff that is knowledgeable and innovative, and provides executive management with investigative and audit recommendations that are clear, objective, constructive, and timely.

Our mission is to serve as an independent and objective inspection, audit, and investigative body to promote effectiveness, efficiency, and economy in the Department of Corrections’ programs and operations, and to prevent and detect crime, fraud, abuse, misconduct, mismanagement, and waste.

The Bureaus of State Investigations and Operations are responsible for criminal and administrative investigation of matters relating to the Department.

The electronic complaint form may be used to report alleged violations of State Statutes, rules, or procedures directly to the Office of the Inspector General.

The Office of the Inspector General — FDC was initially awarded accredited status by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. in 2015. The Office of the Inspector General ظ€ô FDC accreditation program is managed by the agency's Accreditation Manager who is responsible for ensuring that the agency maintains compliance with all professional standards of the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. Accreditation is an ongoing, voluntary process, which provides a systematic and internal assessment of the agency's procedures, directives and practices. For more information on Inspectors General Accreditation, please visit the Florida Accreditation website.

Due to its unique mission, the Department of Corrections must provide for the environmental health and safety of incarcerated felons, as well as its own employees, volunteers and visitors. This is accomplished through the department's Environmental Health - Safety and Risk Management Unit.
