Faith- and Character-Based Institutions (FCBIs)

This monthly update provides data related to Faith- and Character-Based Institutions as of October 2011. The purpose of the update is to provide the latest available data on FCBIs.

At the Faith- and Character-Based Institutions of Lawtey, Wakulla, Glades and Hillsborough CI, inmate religious affiliations are diverse and, as of October 31, 2011, break down as follows:

• 65.1% of inmates identify a religious orientation of Christian non-Roman Catholic;
• 11.3% of inmates identify a religious orientation of Christian Roman Catholic;
• 4.2% of inmates identify a religious orientation of Muslim;
• 1.3% of inmates identify a religious orientation of Jewish;
• 11.8% of inmates identify a religious orientation of none or unknown; and
• 6.3% of inmates belong to one of 10 other religious orientations (including Odinist, Wiccan, Rastafarians, etc.)

'Recidivism Rate' is defined as the percent of inmates returned to prison for any reason (for a new offense or a technical violation) within 3 years after release. These rates are for releases from prison from 1/1/2002-12/31/2009.

• The recidivism rate for males is 33%
• The recidivism rate for females is 19%
• The recidivism rate for inmates who had spent at least 6 months at:
• Hillsborough FCBI for adult female offenders = 14%
• Wakulla FCBI for adult male offenders = 25%
• Lawtey FCBI for adult male offenders = 23%
