The Florida Department of Corrections relies upon numerous volunteers to provide a variety of programs and activities that are consistent with rehabilitative goals for inmates at tremendous savings to the State of Florida. Our facilities offer open public forums, where any person can provide any type of volunteer program or activity at the person's own cost.
Programs and activities are intended to focus on all areas of personal growth and character development. Volunteers are involved in a wide variety of support activities. Volunteers may be instructors, group facilitators, seminar presenters, mentors, program/class assistants, worship leaders, musicians, or support workers. All inmate participation in religious programming is voluntary.
Only content-neutral time, place and manner restrictions can be placed on volunteer activities. This includes generally applicable correctional guidelines, consistent with the general order, security and operation of a penal institution.
