The department uses a large variety of products and services to maintain the daily operations of the state's prison facilities.
Governor Rick Scott signed Executive Order Number 11-4 on January 4, 2011 reaffirming the policy of non-discrimination in government contracting. Executive Order Number 11-4, Section 2 specifically states "I hereby reaffirm the policy of non-discrimination in government contracting established in Executive Order 99-281. It shall be the policy of my administration to encourage competition and ensure state contracting opportunities are provided without discrimination based on race, gender, creed, color, or national origin." The Department of Corrections continues to support this initiative by encouraging staff to provide outreach to and do business with minority, women and service-disabled veteran owned businesses.
To better achieve the goals of Executive Order Number 11-4, the department has established a Minority, Women and Veteran Business Participation Plan for Fiscal Year 2011-12. This plan sets minority vendor expenditure goals and provides for monthly reports on Top 10 and Spotlight Vendors, CMBE Subcontractor spending, and Minority Purchasing Activity.
