The department is requesting additional funding as a result of the projected Criminal Justice Estimating Conference (CJEC) increase in average daily population and need for additional bed space. CJEC estimates as of October 8, 2007 indicate that 105,497 beds will be needed by September, 2009, an increase of 7,948 beds over the September, 2008 funded amount of 97,549.

CJEC estimates as of October 8, 2007 indicate that 105,497 beds will be needed by September, 2009, an increase of 7,948 beds over the September, 2008 funded amount of 97,549. Of the additional 7,948 beds needed, 384 are currently scheduled to be provided by private entities. The Fiscal Year 2008-09 average daily population is projected to be 100,781.
