The department requests $2.3 million in general revenue funding for increased workload associated with the implementation of the Jessica Lunsford Act (JLA). The department’s bureau of Research and Data Analysis projects the number of JLA-eligible offenders to reach 1,198 by June 30, 2009. At a ratio of 25:1, this would require 48 officers of which 23 have been previously funded. Therefore, this request seeks funding for 25 additional officers, as well as supporting supervisors and clerical staff.
