Probation is the single largest category of community supervision, comprising 71.0% of all offenders on supervision. On June 30, 2005, almost two-thirds (62.5%) of those on community supervision for probation had no prior commitments to either prison or supervision.

Of those on Drug Offender probation on June 30, 2005, slightly more offenders had no prior commitments (43.9%) than those who had prior supervision only commitments (39.5%).
