- The bar chart below shows that for Substance Abuse treatment program participants released in FY 2001-02 (latest data available), the recidivism rate (return to prison for any reason within three years after release)
was much lower for inmates that completed treatment (successful) than those who did not complete
treatment (unsuccessful).
