Escapes

Fugitive Unit

The Florida Department of Corrections Fugitive Unit was created in January 2007, using existing staff and resources. Since then, 396 fugitives have been captured. An inmate is eligible to be placed on the list if he has been missing for more than 30 days. Some cases are older (and colder) than 60 years.

Escapes From Florida Prisons Compared Over Ten Years

Escapes have increased from 87 in 99-00 to 158 in 08-09.

Escapes by Quarter

Escapes in the 1st Quarter: 2 from Work Camps or Road Prisons, 37 from Work Release or Contract Centers, and 0 from Correctional Institutions; 2nd Quarter: 3 from Work Camps or Road Prisons, 34 from Work Release or Contract Centers, and 0 from Correctional Institutions; 3rd Quarter: 0 from Work Camps or Road Prisons, 30 from Work Release or Contract Centers, and 0 from Correctional Institutions; 4th Quarter: 1 from Work Camps or Road Prisons, 50 from Work Release or Contract Centers, and 0 from Correctional Institutions;
