
Offenders who committed their offenses on or after October 1, 1995 are required to serve a minimum of 85% of their court-imposed sentences prior to their release. On June 30, 2009, 87.0% of all inmates in prison are serving their sentence under this law, meaning they will serve a minimum of 85% of their sentences. As more inmates are admitted with offenses after October 1, 1995, the percentage of current inmates required to serve at least 85% of their sentence has steadily risen from 78.6% in 2005 to 87.0% in 2009.
