Inmate Admissions: TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education) Scores at Admission FY 2013-14

Inmates admitted to the Department tested around the 6th Grade Level: Approximately 67.4% below GED Prep Level

  • Of all the scores analyzed, the median test score (half the scores were above and half were below this score) was 6.4, the same as last fiscal year.
  • About 41.5% of the inmate admissions during FY 2013-14 were classified as having basic literacy skills (1.0 to 5.9 grade levels) and approximately 25.9% were classified as having functional literacy skills (6.0 to 8.9 grade levels). This equates to 67.4% have less than GED Prep skills (less than 9.0 grade level). These figures remain relatively unchanged from last fiscal year.
