Escapes
There were 276 escapes from all DC facilities during FY 1995-96. The majority (87.7%) were escapes from minimum custody facilities, such as work release centers. 88.4% have been recaptured, and about 41.4% of those were recaptured within 24 hours of their escape.
A total of 13 inmates escaped from major institutions during FY 1995-96, compared to 37 the previous fiscal year. Of the total (13) inmates who escaped from major institutions, all 13 (100%) were recaptured.
