The Bureau of Staff Development is responsible for the research, design, development, and delivery of training to all department employees. The bureau ensures that the department's training meets the regulatory compliance requirements of Congressional Laws, Florida Statutes, Administrative Rules, and standards of the American Correctional Association. In addition to these outside regulatory agencies, the department must also comply with the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) training requirements. The department's 19,000 Correctional Officers and Correctional Probation Officers are certified and governed by CJSTC. The Florida Department of Corrections comprises the Region XVI Training Council of CJSTC and has the largest number of training centers in the state with 45 satellite training sites.
Through the reorganization of the Bureau of Staff Development, former satellite training sites have been reduced to 22 cluster training sites serving employees in all seven Service Center areas. The Bureau of Staff Development directs and oversees all CJSTC trust fund appropriations for applicable training activities throughout the department. |
