The office of program services offers educational opportunities for offenders, including academic, special and wellness education and vocational training. We provide the following services: library, law library, chaplaincy and substance abuse programs; community-based programs such as the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) tracking system and the Batterer's Intervention Program. The department offers specialized institutional services for female and youthful offenders and placement and workforce development.
This office oversees the department's Foundation for Partnerships in Correctional Excellence and is supported by the contract management and program planning and development section. The recent department reorganization moved all programs under one umbrella to provide a seamless and holistic delivery system for offenders to improve outcomes and reduce recidivism.
"The mood and temper of the public in regard to the treatment of crime and criminals is one of the most unfailing tests of any country. A calm, dispassionate recognition of the rights of the accused and even of the convicted criminal, ...tireless efforts towards the discovery of curative and regenerative processes, unfailing faith that there is a treasure, if you can only find it, in the heart of every man; these are the symbols which, in the treatment of crime and the criminal, mark and measure the stored-up strength of a nation, and are the sign and proof of the living virtue within it."
