You can imagine the reluctance of an employer the first time he or she hires an ex-inmate who carries that invisible sign that says, ‘convicted felon’ around his or her neck. The man he hired had no actual job record, but the company took a chance. Later he took a chance on another former inmate.

The first opened the door for the second. This company president took a chance for the sake of the offender, for the sake of the offender’s family and for the sake of the taxpayers of this state who foot the bill every time someone returns to prison. We all benefited from his courage."
