Time Served

• Inmates released from prison in February 2003 served an average of 82.6% of their sentences.



• 1,713 (83.1%) of the inmates released in February 2003 had one or more sentences that fell under the minimum 85% of sentence served law. As noted on the cover this month, 71.2% of all inmates in prison on February 28, 2003 were serving a MINIMUM of 85% of their sentences.

Older Inmates

• There were 7,427 inmates age 50 or older in prison on February 28, 2003. This is an increase of 12.6% since last year (6,596 inmates on February 28, 2002).
