The crime rate in Florida has dropped 3.3% since 2001.
Approximately 130 children participated in the Florida Department of
Corrections' "Take Our Daughters/Sons to Work Day" on April 24, 2003
in Tallahassee, and hundreds more participated at individual facilities statewide.
This year, this popular program featured mock parole hearings, an
electronic monitoring demonstration, a building tour and "official" ID cards
for the participants.
There are 303 correctional officers and probation offices and other DC
staff members currently on active duty in the Army, Army Reserve, Florida
National Guard, Navy, Navy Reserve, Air Force and Air Force Reserve and
approximately 440 DC employees with immediate family deployed.
