- Secretary James V. Crosby, Jr., announced on July 15 that over 50 Florida
Sheriff's have agreed to implement the Victim Information and Notification
Everyday (VINE) system in their local jails. VINE proactively notifies
crime victims of inmate location, transfer, escape, death or release. VINE is
a free public service. To register call 1-877-vine-4FL (1-877-846-3435).
- The inmate population in Florida prisons has jumped 5.1% over the last
fiscal year, from 73,553 on June 30, 2002 to 77,316 on June 30, 2003.
Conversely, the number of offenders on community supervision has
dropped slightly from last fiscal year, from 153,477 on June 30, 2002 to
152,975 on June 30, 2003.
