By October 31, 1999, design and develop a training course entitled "Working with the Female Offender" for staff working with female offenders. The course curriculum will include, but not be limited to:

By January 14, 2000, submit the curriculum identified in Objective 4.1 of this document to the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission for approval as a specialized course (by the end of FY 2000-01) to be taught at certified training centers. Compliance will be monitored by the Compliance Monitoring Report (CMR). (See Appendix II.)

By June 29, 2001, improve the level of awareness and understanding among correctional
professionals as they relate to female-gender specific topics and issues. This will be measured by the successful completion of the "Working with the Female Offender" training curriculum and by the administration and analysis of a pre- and post-training survey tool.

By July 1, 1999, design a four (4) hour orientation block entitled "Working with the Female Offender" to be delivered by institutional training staff for all newly hired employees assigned to female facilities prior to permanent job assignments. Compliance will be monitored by the Compliance Monitoring Report (CMR). (See Appendix II.)

Starting September 8, 1999, and every other year thereafter, conduct a state-wide "Female Offender Focused Symposium" which will provide knowledge for individuals working with female offenders to develop and strengthen professional skills. Compliance will be monitored by the Compliance Monitoring Report (CMR). (See Appendix II.)

By March 31, 2000, using the updated Status Report for Female Offenders, develop a specific female offender report that will be placed on the DC web site. The page will maintain current information on female offenders issues, programs, applied research, transition information, etc. This site will have links to related information and will also serve as a transition and information link for released offenders by connecting them to information and resources that can assist them as they reintegrate back into their communities. Compliance will be monitored by the Compliance Monitoring Report (CMR). (See Appendix II.)
