This section looks at offenders who absconded from supervision based upon the fiscal year of their placement. An absconder is someone who flees supervision/monitoring, whose whereabouts are unknown and for whom the judge has issued an arrest warrant for a violation of supervision.

- Of the 2,372 offenders who absconded within one year of placement, 72.4% were apprehended.
- Of those apprehended, 44.7% were subsequently revoked.
- Only 12.9% were able to return to active status.

Chart 4A: Placements on Community Control in FY 2001-02 Who Absconded within 1 Year
- Of the community controlees who absconded, over three-quarters (76.9%) were male; over half (57.4%) were white.
- Less than two percent of community control sex offenders absconded.
- The majority of community controlees who absconded (37.7%) had been convicted of a property offense.

- Of the offenders being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) who absconded, over three-quarters (81.8%) were male; over half (54.5%) were white.
- Less than one-quarter (4.5%) of those who absconded while being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) were sex offenders.
- Over three-quarters of the offenders being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) who absconded were on supervision for either a property (47.6%) or violent (9.5%) offense.

- Of the offenders being monitored by Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) who absconded, over three-quarters (88.1%) were male; over one half were white (54.2%).
- Slightly less than a third (30.5%) of those who absconded while being monitored by Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) were sex offenders.
- More than one third of the offenders being monitored by Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) who absconded were on supervision for a violent (40.7%) offense.

- Of the 2,547 offenders who absconded within two years of placement, 84.0% were apprehended.
- Of those apprehended, 67.6% were subsequently revoked.
- Only 3.4% were able to continue their supervision / monitoring.

- Of the community controlees who absconded, over three-quarters (75.5%) were male; over half (56.2%) were white.
- The percentage of community control sex offenders who absconded was negligible (1.7%).
- Nearly three-quarters of community controlees who absconded had been convicted of a drug offense (39.5%) or a property crime (32.8%).

- Of the offenders being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) who absconded, over three-quarters (88.2%) were male; 53.0% were white, and 44.1% were black.
- Almost one quarter (20.6%) of those who absconded while being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) were sex offenders.
- Of the offenders being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) who absconded, nearly half were on supervision for a property offense (39.5%) and half for a violent (45.6%) offense.

- Of the offenders being monitored by Global Positioning (GPS) who absconded, over three-quarters (86.0%) were male; 49.1% were black, and 47.4% were white.
- Over one quarter (29.8%) of those who absconded while being monitored by Global Positioning (GPS) were sex offenders.
- Of the offenders being monitored by Global Positioning (GPS) who absconded, over half were on supervision for a violent (57.1%) offense.

- Of the 2,694 offenders who absconded within three years of placement, 88.4% were apprehended.
- Of those apprehended, 74.6% were subsequently revoked.
- Only 2.5% were able to continue their supervision / monitoring.

- Of the offenders on Community Control who absconded, over three-quarters (77.7%) were male; over half (56.0%) were white.
- Slightly less than 2.0% of those who absconded while on Community Control were sex offenders.
- Of the offenders on Community Control who absconded, over three-quarters were on supervision for a drug offense (41.4%) or a property offense (33.6%).
- Chart 4H: Placements on Radio Frequency (RF) in FY 1999-00 Who Absconded within 3 Years
- Of the offenders being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) who absconded, over three-quarters (78.3%) were male; more than half were black (56.5%).
- Slightly less than ten percent (8.7%) of those who absconded while being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) were sex offenders.
- Of the offenders being monitored by Radio Frequency (RF) who absconded 95.6% were on supervision for a drug offense (47.8%) or a violent offense (47.8%).
