Inmate Profile Summary
This County Detention Facilities Summary provides a monthly profile of Florida's detention facility inmate populations. Monthly Average Daily Population (ADP) figures include male, female, adult and juvenile inmates.
These population figures are arranged into felony, misdemeanor and "other" subcategories in Table 1. "Other" includes the number of parole violators, state inmates, undocumented aliens, holdings for other jurisdictions and individuals detained under the Baker (mental health) and Myers (alcoholism) Acts. Within felony and misdemeanor subcategories, the number of inmates sentenced, held for trial or sentencing, and those detained or sentenced for violation of probation are listed.
The Jail Population Summary (Table 4) lists detention center totals for the year to date.

On average, there were 60,848 inmates in Florida's county detention facilities during the month of October 2005. The statewide average daily (ADP) totals include 51,922 adult males (85.3%), 8,225 adult females (13.5%), 682 juvenile males (1.1%) and 19 juvenile females (0.0%). The overall distribution of male and female inmates has remained constant in county detention facilities for the past several years. In October 2005, the statewide county detention incarceration rate was 3.7 per 1,000 county residents based on the population estimates for April 1, 2004. The county population estimates are provided by the Office of Economic and Demographic Research of the Florida Legislature. Incarceration rates ranged from a low of 1.7 in Union County, to a high of 13.0 in Wakulla County. Other counties may be experiencing high incarceration rates due to the contracting of bed space for federal inmates.Pretrial Population Levels
During the month of October 2005, 36,166 of the inmates housed in county detention facilities were classified as “Awaiting Trial.” Of these, 29,979 offenders (82.9%) were awaiting trial for felony offenses while 6,187 (17.1%) were detained for misdemeanor violations. Of the 59 counties reporting, 66.1% had over half of their inmates awaiting trial.
Notes: These numbers do not include the following Non-Reporting facilities: Dixie County Jail, Martin County Jail, Monroe County Jails (All), Okeechobee County Jail, St. Lucie County Jail and Sarasota County Jail.
The following facilities did not report due to technical difficulties: Sumter County Jail (ADP 252) and Taylor County Jail (ADP 101).
