This request is based on the March 2006 Criminal Justice Estimating Conference (CJEC) projections. The CJEC projections indicate that the department will need an additional 2,504 inmate beds (based on total capacity) by January 2010. In order for the department to meet this critical need, funding will be required to continue the construction of Suwannee Correctional Institution and additional inmate housing units at the following facilities; one secure housing unit at Lowell Annex, one open bay dorm at Santa Rosa Annex, two open bay dorms at Washington Correctional Institution, and two open bay dorms at Columbia Annex.
