The department requests a 590-bed expansion of its work release/transition center program. This expansion will allow the department to provide one of its most successful transition programs to more inmates. The expansion will include 170 program beds and 420 work release beds. These programs prepare inmates for release to the community, assist the inmate in providing payment for court ordered obligations and require the inmate to contribute toward the cost of their incarceration. The department currently has 2,645 inmates potentially eligible for consideration for placement in work release that are not assigned as such.
