This Monthly Status Report provides a brief profile of Florida's community supervision population. The supervision population consists of all offenders on supervision through specific court placement or other assignment to a community-based program as a condition of prison release. The overall population on the last day of the month is broken down into status types:

• Active - offender is currently supervised in the community per conditions of supervision
• Active-Suspense - offender is unavailable for direct supervision, may be incarcerated, in drug treatment, hospital, etc., during supervision term, but is still monitored by a probation officer
• Out of State - Florida offender transfers supervision to another state, the Department of Corrections continues to monitor compliance of conditions
• Absconder - offender absconds from supervision, whereabouts are unknown and court issues a warrant for violation

Supervision types are divided into Original Sentence, Post Prison Release and Other Supervision Types. These represent the actual types of supervision imposed by the court or the Parole Commission. As of March 31, 2002:

• 152,946 offenders on Active or Active-Suspense Community Supervision
  • 146,973 serving an original sentence
  • 5,962 on Post-Prison Release
  • 11 on other types of supervision
• 831 offenders on electronic monitoring
  • 273 Radio Frequency
  • 558 Global Positioning
• Region III has the highest active supervised population with 33,478 offenders
• The average Probation sentence is 3.9 years (includes life sentences)
