
Program Duration: Three (3) to Four (4) months.
Program Description: Thinking for a Change is a cognitive-behavioral intervention for individuals involved with the criminal justice system created by the National Institute of Corrections designed to reduce recidivism. The three main components are: Cognitive Self Change; Social and Problem Solving Skills.
Recipients: Inmates housed in the Florida Department of Corrections who have been assessed with a Recidivism Index (RI) of 3 or 4.
Criteria for Admission: (1) Pre-screen group members through a brief individual interview; (2) Focus on Recidivism Index score of 3 or 4; (3) Be within 36 months of release; (4) Ensure groups are between 8 – 12 members; and (5) Offered no more than two sessions per week.
Institutional: Roll out will be gradual with eventual statewide implementation.
