Re: Officer Gary Whitaker
River Road Bridge over Gum Creek
Dear Major O'Brien:
On Tuesday morning February 8, 2011 our office was notified by the Washington County Sheriff's Department that a call had been received about damage to the wooden bridge on River Road. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the damage was severe, including three broken stringers and numerous deck boards. This damage rendered the bridge unsafe for vehicular traffic. As you can imagine, closure of this bridge forces residents in this area to travel several miles out of the way in order to detour around the bridge.
Our crews, with the assistance of Officer Whitaker and his crew, were able to remove and replace the damaged bridge timbers and decking in order to have the bridge reopened prior to the end of our normal work day.
We want to take this opportunity to commend Officer Whitaker and his crew for their willingness to work with us in order to accomplish this task in such a timely manner. Officer Whitaker and his crew are one of the most productive crews that we have had associated with our department. His hard work and diligence is sincerely appreciated.
Please extend our thanks to Officer Whitaker and his crew.
Sincerely,
Dallas Carter
West Side Supervisor
