Dear Warden Whitfield,
My nephew, [Redacted], is incarcerated at the reception center as of this date. I am writing to commend you regarding your staff at this facility. I called the annex one evening last week to check to see if [Redacted] was at this facility and talked with a Sgt. Harden. I was so very impressed with his compassion and kindness to a family member. He was so knowledgable of all the information and patient. I had also e-mailed the facility earlier in the week with questions and received the most respectful response in a timely manner.
Families certainly do not enjoy having to deal with these types of challenges but it helps if the staff treat us with respect and kindness. It seems that your staff realize that the inmate is someone's son, brother, nephew, grandson, etc. We love them regardless of what choices they have made. I worked with the State of Alabama for 36 years in child welfare and always tried to keep this thought in my mind as I worked with families in crises.
Warden Whitfield, these attitudes have to be reflected from the people in charge, so it is obvious you are a strong role model. Thank you for the contribution you make in making this time easier for our family member and his family.
Sincerely,
[Name Redacted]
