05/05/11 Columbia CI Warden D. Davis and Classification Supervisor J. Parrish

Good Morning Sir

I am a Cold Case Homicide Investigator with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. Yesterday I sent an e-mail to Warden Don Davis, Columbia C.I. requesting some information and future interview assistance concerning an inmate. The inmate is [redacted]. Knowing the work load of corrections staff, I ended my request stating there was no urgency and they could respond at their convenience. I did expect to hear back from your staff but I didn’t expect such a rapid response. Warden Davis immediately responded to my e-mail and I received a follow-up call from Classification Supervisor Jay Parrish. Not only did Jay call my office number, when he did not get a call back (secretary was away) he called my cell phone. I spoke with Jay and he could not have been more helpful. He had the answers to all my questions and was very courteous and accommodating.

Being a (semi) retired Major from the Sheriff’s office with a 35 year career behind me, I have had numerous dealings with prisons and the staff. I am more aware than most non corrections officers of the challenges corrections personnel are faced with every day, just from inside. I know it is somewhat of a pain trying to accommodate outsiders and at the same time attend to the  daily duties required. I assume due to budget issues, your staff are attending to these duties shorthanded.

You must already know, you  have a very professional and courteous staff you can be very proud of.

I must say this was a pleasant experience. I think this will be the first time I look forward to visiting a correctional facility.

Thank you Sir and thanks to your Columbia staff.
