Florida Department of Corrections Presents
"The Second Annual Female Focused Symposium"

The opening session of The Second Annual Female Focused Symposium will be broadcast live from Tampa, Florida on Wednesday, July 30, 1997, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. EDT. The broadcast, "Showcasing Florida's Accomplishments: An Atypical Example," will be downlinked via the Corrections Distance Learning Network (CDLN) to our 39 CDLN sites around the state. The program is also being broadcasted nationally.

Secretary Harry K. Singletary, Jr., will host a panel of female experts from all levels of correctional management involved in meeting the needs of the department's female employees and offenders. Panel members include Shawn Baldwin, Chief, Bureau of Personnel; Linda Buby, Superintendent, Florida Correctional Institution; Cecelia Denmark, Assistant Superintendent, Broward Correctional Institution; Col. Rita Gallo, Regional Security Coordinator, Region IV; Joyce Haley, Director, Regional Community Corrections, Region IV; and Dinah Poore, Superintendent, Jefferson Correctional Institution. J. D. Lester, Assistant Chief, Bureau of Staff Development, will serve as the panel moderator. These distinguished panelists will address those issues facing female staff and offenders.

This program is designed for correctional officers, probation and parole officers, supervisors, administrators, volunteers, community partners, correctional educators, mental health counselors, and all others involved with female offenders. Additionally, this program will be informative for anyone who is interested in current issues related to female employees and offenders in this department.

To view the program, you should identify a facility in your area that has a steerable dish and can receive the satellite coordinates. The broadcast will be available on C-Band, providing the highest quality transmission. Agencies you may contact in your community to schedule the viewing include, cooperative extension offices, community colleges, local school systems, and universities.
