National Volunteers Week April 19-26
Tallahassee, Florida--In a brief ceremony on April 22,
1998 at 9:00 a.m. Harry K. Singletary, Jr., Secretary of the Florida
Department of Corrections, will present Dr. Adam W. Herbert,
Chancellor of the Florida State Board of Regents and David Armstrong,
acting Executive Director of the State Board of Community Colleges
with two department video tapes: "Behind the Gate: The
Role of the Correctional Officer and "Under the Watchful
Eye: The Role of the Correctional Probation Officer.
The ceremony will take place in Room 1505 of the Turlington Building
at 325 W. Gaines St. in Tallahassee. The tapes symbolize the
statewide distribution of the educational videos to all community
colleges and universities. The programs show "a day in the
life" of several Corrections and Probation Officers.
The ceremony highlights the student volunteer/intern and employment
opportunities with the Department of Corrections, part of the
existing partnership DC has with Florida's community colleges
and universities. The Department of Corrections is the workplace
of many student volunteers and interns.
