Inmate Attacks Correctional Officer
at Dade CI

FLORIDA CITY - An inmate attacked a correctional officer at Dade Correctional Institution Tuesday afternoon.

Inmate Natasha Richards (DC# 162095/DOB: 4-19-74) attacked correctional officer Sophia Green at approximately 4:37 pm. Officer Green was escorting inmate Richards back to her cell when the inmate managed to get the officer in a headlock and started hitting her head against a desk. The incident was unprovoked.

Additional staff arrived to assist officer Green and the inmate was secured in her cell. Prison medical staff examined the officer, who was transported by ambulance to Homestead Hospital. She was treated for bruising and pain to her head and neck. It is not known when she will return to work.

Inmate Richards has a history of disciplinary problems in prison. She is serving a five-year sentence for battery on a law enforcement officer in Broward County. The Department of Corrections will recommend to the state attorney's office that she be charged with battery on a law enforcement officer.
