ASSAULT ADVISORY
Inmate Attacks Correctional Officer at FSP

STARKE - An inmate assaulted a correctional officer at Florida State Prison Wednesday night.

At 10:15 pm, correctional Sgt. Conrad Wallace and officer Jamie Whitaker were escorting inmate Eric Green (DC# 192172) from the prison law library to his cell on E-wing. As he was being placed in his cell, he turned on the officers and bit officer Whitaker on the left shoulder. Sgt. Wallace attempted to pull Green off Whitaker, whereupon all three fell to the floor. Green maintained his bite hold on officer Whitaker, even after Sgt. Wallace administered pepper spray to Green.

The officers continued to struggle with the inmate until he was subdued. They placed him in his cell where he was examined by prison medical staff. Green was treated for a superficial laceration to his upper lip.

Medical staff examined Sgt. Wallace and found no injuries. Officer Whitaker was referred to a local hospital where he was treated and released Wednesday night. He will return to work this week.

The Department of Corrections inspector general's office will conduct an internal investigation into the incident. DOC will refer criminal charges against inmate Green to the State Attorney's Office.

Background information on Green and all inmates is available on our website at www.dc.state.fl.us under the "inmate population information search."

Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
