ASSAULT ADVISORY Inmate Attacks Correctional Officer at Hardee CI
BOWLING GREEN - An inmate assaulted a correctional officer at Hardee Correctional Institution Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 2:30 pm, correctional officer Tom Kacprowicz had instructed inmate orderly David Jones (DC# 139448) to bring a bucket of water from upstairs to downstairs in F-dorm, where the prison's close management unit is located. When the inmate refused, officer Kacprowicz advised the inmate he would receive a disciplinary report. Jones then used his hand to strike officer Kacprowicz in the face.
The officer's eyeglasses were broken and he sustained a laceration to his bottom lip and swelling to his right eye. He was treated at a local hospital Sunday and released. He will return to work this week. No force was used on the inmate, who voluntarily returned to his cell immediately after the assault. The Department of Corrections plans to refer charges against the inmate to the State Attorney's Office.
Background information on Jones and all inmates is available on our website at www.dc.state.fl.us under the "inmate population information search."
Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
