Inmate Attacks Correctional Officer
at Century CI

CENTURY - A correctional officer was attacked by an inmate at Century Correctional Institution in Escambia County Saturday night.

Correctional officers observed inmate Robert Williams (DC# 180699/DOB: 4-20-62) tearing up the mattress in his cell at 11:00 pm CST Saturday. When Williams refused orders to cease, Sgt. Warren Anderson and Correctional Officer Myles Resmondo entered the cell to restrain the inmate. As Sgt. Anderson reached for the mattress, inmate Williams bit him on the middle finger of his left hand. Additional staff arrived and handcuffed the inmate without further incident. He was given a routine medical check and no injuries were noted.

Sgt. Anderson sustained a laceration on his finger and hand. He was treated at Jay Hospital where his hand was X-rayed. He was also given antibiotics and a tetanus shot. No sutures were required. It is not known when he will return to work.

The Department of Corrections will recommend to the State Attorney's Office that inmate Williams be charged with battery on a law enforcement officer. Williams remains in administrative confinement pending an evaluation of his status.
