Inmate dies at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution
TALLAHASSEE - Inmate Steven Stonebraker (DC# J16351/DOB: 5-20-76) died Thursday evening at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution in Milton. His death is being investigated by the Department of Corrections and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE.)
A correctional officer found Stonebraker unresponsive in a cell at approximately 7:00 pm CST. The officer began CPR and notified prison medical staff as well as paramedics. Stonebraker was pronounced dead 7:50 pm CST.
FDLE, with the assistance of the DOC inspector general, is investigating the death as an apparent homicide. FDLE's involvement is mandated by the 1999 memorandum of understanding between the two agencies regarding the investigation of inmate homicides, suicides and other serious incidents.
