By direction of the Legislature, the Florida Department of Corrections on Sept. 1 issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the delivery of comprehensive healthcare to inmates in Region IV.
For the purposes of the RFP, the twelve institutions in Region IV were divided into two clusters: the East with seven institutions and the West with five. (As per proviso, the privatized institutions - Moore Haven and South Bay - were excluded from this initiative.)
From Sept. 11 - 22, potential vendors were given the opportunity to visit each of the institutions and become familiar with the physical plant and inmate configurations that affect each institutional healthcare delivery system. On Sept. 27, a Proposers' Conference was held at Central Office in Tallahassee to discuss the contents of the RFP with interested vendors and to answer questions. Vendors were then given until Oct. 3 to submit written inquiries and Letters of Intent to Propose.
The following companies have submitted such letters, although it is not yet known whether they intend to propose on either of the clusters or both. This will be determined upon the opening of the project proposals at Central Office on Oct. 30 at 2:00 pm. A further update on the progress of the RFP will be issued at that time.
