Inmate Commits Suicide
at Santa Rosa CI
Milton - Inmate Patrick Vanpelt (DC# E05571/DOB: 2/1/59) committed suicide Monday evening at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution.
Correctional officers found Vanpelt in his cell at approximately 8:00 pm with a sheet tied around his neck. They began CPR and also summoned medical staff and emergency medical personnel. He was pronounced dead at 8:15 pm by EMS.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), with the assistance of the DOC inspector general, is investigating the death. FDLE's involvement is mandated by the 1999 memorandum of understanding between the two agencies regarding the investigation of inmate suicides, homicides and other serious incidents.
Vanpelt was serving a sentence of 12 years for 3 counts of robbery with firearm or deadly weapon and 1 count of attempted robbery with firearm in Seminole County. Further information is available on our website under the inmate release information search.
