Department of Corrections
Donates Toys

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Department of Corrections will donate nearly 1,400 inmate-made toys to children in the Big Bend area this holiday season. Dolls, stuffed animals, wooden trucks, trains, airplanes, cars and yo-yo's will be distributed to local organizations for delivery to needy children.

Inmates in the north Florida area made the toys from materials donated by non-profit and civic organizations. Toy-making is a year-round job assignment for more than 15 inmates at Columbia and Cross City Correctional Institutions.

The department also held a special "Casual Dress Day" to local charities. Participated employees donated either $5, five can goods, or one new toy.
