May 6-12 Designated Correctional Employee Recognition Week
Department of Corrections Secretary Michael Moore said today he is grateful to Governor Jeb Bush for designating May 6-12 as Correctional Employee Recognition week. He said the department will have activities throughout the state next week to recognize the outstanding service of Department of Corrections employees.
"Our employees are charged with the responsibility of protecting the public, and they have a very tough job," Moore said. "Florida's corrections employees are among the best in the nation, and I'm extremely proud of the fine job they do."
Moore said he is pleased the state is recognizing the work and contributions of correctional officers, probation officers, and all other department staff who do such a tremendous job providing custody, care, and supervision of more than 300,000 offenders either incarcerated or under community supervision in more than 300 offices and facilities statewide.
"Many of our employees put their lives on the line every day in order to help ensure the safety of our cities, towns, and neighborhoods," Moore said. "Our workers are true professionals who face unique challenges and work under a great deal of stress. They are truly deserving of this special recognition."
Moore said recognition activities are planned for facilities throughout the state. Media interested in visiting local institutions or probation offices should call the DOC Public Affairs Office at 850/488-0420.
