Governor Jeb Bush has appointed me Secretary of the Department of Corrections. I am both honored and excited. The stewardship of our Department offers great challenges and opportunities and I intend to begin work immediately. There are two tasks that must be addressed forthwith.
Secretary James Crosby
The first, as always, is the appropriate operation of our agency. At this time, the organizational structure, lines of authority, and area of responsibility will not change. Each of you is reminded that during this transition period we must be especially diligent in our work.
The second is the formation of my transition team and the execution of its duties. I have appointed C. George Denman to serve as Chairman of the transition team and he will be assisted by Alberto Dominguez. I expect this process to move very quickly and you may be called upon to provide information or materials. Please provide the team your absolute assistance.
I have worked in the Department for most of my professional life and realize the great responsibility this position carries. I also realize the success of this department lies within its loyal, dedicated and hardworking staff, and I feel privileged to work with all of you. The honor of providing leadership for our agency is something I have prepared for my entire career and there is no other place I would rather be.
