Official Opening of Demilly Correctional Institution with Emphasis On Successful Inmate Re-Entry into Society
Reporters are invited to attend the official opening of the Florida Department of Corrections' Demilly Correctional Institution on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 1pm.
Demilly is Florida’s first re-entry institution. Reporters must report to the gate between 12:00 noon and 12:30 pm.
Demilly CI houses 350 adult male inmates with three years or less remaining on their sentences, preparing them for work release and successful re-entry into society. Emphasis at Demilly is on education, substance abuse treatment and life skills training such as budgeting and preparing for job interviews.
Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Walt McNeil will address those in attendance.
There will be audio and video opportunities of inmates participating in programs. Reporters can also interview Secretary McNeil regarding the Department’s Re-entry Mission.

From I-4 take Exit 44 (SR-559 North) and drive approximately 1 mile to County Road 557-A. Turn right onto CR 557-A and drive approximately 1.5 miles to Evans Road. Turn left onto Evans Road and drive to DeMilley Road. Turn left onto DeMilley Road and drive about 1.1 miles. Demilly CI will be on the right.
