News media is invited to the first anniversary of the Paws in Prison program, and the graduation ceremony of its fifth class of dogs on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 10 am at Wakulla Correctional Institution's Work Camp in Crawfordville, Florida. Guest speaker will be Laura Bevan, Director of the Humane Society of the United States' Eastern Regional Office. She has extensive experience in working natural disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires and floods, and has specialized knowledge in animal cruelty and fighting issues.

Paws in Prison brings together area rescue dogs with inmates and gives each a second chance to succeed. The program is designed to provide homeless dogs with training and socialization skills, and offers inmates a chance to give back to the community.

There will be opportunities to photograph the inmates with their dogs. If you are interested in attending, please respond by Friday, May 29, 2009 to Gretl Plessinger at (850) 488-0420 to allow time for security clearance. Wakulla CI Work Camp's address is 110 Melaleuca Drive, Crawfordville, FL 32327.
