Secretary Buss and The Florida Department of Corrections On Twitter

Photo of Secretary Buss and Former Secretary McNeilTallahassee – Secretary Buss and The Florida Department of Corrections have begun Tweeting about inmate graduation ceremonies, K-9 Teams catching fleeing felons, offender sweeps by its probation officers and the re-accreditation of its prisons as they joined the social media movement last week. A Facebook page is also in the works.

"I want to communicate our messages as efficiently and effectively as possible and social media like Twitter and Facebook are perfect vehicles for helping to get our message out," said Florida Department of Correction Secretary Ed Buss, whose first day in his new job is today.

In addition to press releases and general announcements involving the prison and probation system, the Department plans to use Twitter to quickly get the word out to inmate families, offenders on supervision and their families, reporters and the public about emergency situations such as outbreaks of illness that would necessitate canceling visitation and other news where timeliness is essential.

Two Twitter accounts have been established. To follow Secretary Buss on Twitter, go to http://twitter.com/@Florida_DOC For general information such as press releases and prison visitation, search for FL_Corrections.
